Walking Dead

Hey Fellow Fans,

With season four just wrapping up, AMC has a huge void to fill!  Somewhere between the last long break from season three to four, one show with a large hype premiered: The Walking Dead.

Based off of a successful and classic Zombie graphic novel series, the show was destined for success.  The beginning of The Walking Dead starts with a father/police officer who wakes from a coma.  The exciting part is that he wakes up to an familiar world, a post-apocalyptic zombie zombie filled world.  In search for his family, Rick Grimes, finds and leads a small group of uninfected people to survive in the newly demolished world.

The first half of the six episode season were greatly executed, mostly due to the similarity to the plot progression in the graphic novel.  The direction of the photography was done beautifully, bringing to life full spread drawings from the first graphic novel, which the movie 'Watchmen' showed us how great such a feature works.  However, about half way through the season, Walking Dead takes a turn for the worse.  The show seemed to loose a lot of motivation, and in turn, viewer interest.  Of course their was spurts of great writing and good plot direction, but eventually none of these came to close together.   By the end of the, far off from the novel plot, the watchers of the show were left with a very anticlimactic and disappointing season finally.  I do not think writers should stick to the graphic novel; that would be boring.  But what is smarter to do is to keep significant events inline with the show to keep the pace at its original (and obviously successful) story.

News from behind the scenes at AMC, rumors had quickly sprung.  The first of which is the termination of the whole writing crew, in which the job would be given to free-lance writers.  I think this could be a good idea, but a risky one, and probably not one that AMC should take with its track history of Breaking Bad and Mad Men.  However, closer to the season it seems the crew has simply mad a few adjustments to the writing department.  With some people gone, and new people and charge this show could still go in either direction.

So after season one of The Walking Dead, the show pretty much ended where episode 3 did.  The overall season conflict would have been better kept as a side story rather than an overall plot carrier.  However, logic only shows that the show still has very much potential.  The new writers may save the show!  Either way it still deserves your attention and viewing pleasure!

Tune into AMC on October 16th, for the premier of the second season!
